Steve Ward and his family endured many of the experiences that families dread.
They faced alcoholism, drug issues, depression, and financial and marriage issues. But they learned a life-changing lesson in the process: God often does his best work during our toughest times! The resilience and insights they learned in recovery helped his family rise back to a rewarding and sustainable life.
Along the way, Steve spent hundreds of hours studying addiction and recovery. He and his family learned from inpatient and outpatient treatment, professional counseling, AA, Celebrate Recovery, and family meetings. Steve studied how people can improve their lives with time-tested spiritual and emotional principles. Most importantly, he lived it himself and saw firsthand how transformation occurred with him and his family and how others can be helped as well.
Steve retired after 38 years in business to found STEPS Ministries, a nonprofit ministry with the goals to help people improve their lives, grow closer to God, and prevent addiction. He is the author of STEPS: A Daily Journey to a Better Life and the STEPS Journey Blog. He is a speaker, teacher, and coach for the prevention of addiction, and his parenting training has earned high acclaim. Steve and his wife Catherine now gratefully continue their journey in Birmingham, Alabama.
